The above is the side of the island of Socotra where one climbs up. This is the picture you see, if you are in the middle of the island and if you are facing it.6 If you approach it from the sea, this picture will perhaps alter and you will see the island differently.

From al-Manṣūrah to Raysūt7 three parasangs and you cross Jabal Rās al-Ḥimār8 at the end of Ghubbat al-Qamr.9 Raysūt used to be a great town and there was a road to it leading from Baghdad, paved10 and plastered with gypsum and lime. Caravans would bring up goods11 or footwear,12 taking commodities down which had been brought in from13 India like brass,14 cinnabar,15 rose-water and silver etc. But it was destroyed over a long period of time [by constant use].
